Greek communities and other hellenic organizations
Montreal has the second largest Greek community in Canada after Toronto.
The Hellenic Community of Montreal, the oldest Greek organization in
Canada, represents all Greeks in the vacinity.
Many
Greeks live in the suburb of Laval, as well. There is a large number
of Greek ethnocultural associations in the Province.
The local Greek media are very active, with many Greek-language radio
and tv programs, and newspapers. The Community
in Montreal also operates École Primaire
Socrates, a day-time Elementary school where Greek language, history
and culture are taught as part of the regular curriculum. Many generations
of Greek Montrealites have been educated there. Other Communities
and Greek Orthodox parishes exist on the South Shore of Montreal, West
Island, Quebec City, and
other cities.
