Our Mandate

The Congress’ mandate is to develop the highest standards of citizenship in the Hellenes of Canada by encouraging, carrying on and participating in activities of a cultural, educational, humanitarian, religious and social nature, consistent with the Hellenic heritage of custom, language, religion and tradition. More specifically:
  • To act as a liaison between the various Hellenic communities and organizations which are dispersed across Canada;
  • To provide a means of a two-way consultation between the Hellenic community on the one hand and the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, Agencies and Institutions on the other;
  • To represent and advocate before the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, agencies and Institutions the views aspirations and desires of the Hellenes of Canada in matters of interest to the Hellenic community at large;
  • To provide a means for expanding local or regional activities, with the consent of the organizations concerned unto a national scale so that more people may participate in and benefit from them;
  • To promote and encourage the involvement of Hellenes in public affairs at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels;
  • To disseminate on a national level information beneficial to the Hellenic community at large;
  • To foster the rich cultural heritage of Hellenes, and participate in multicultural activities in order to interpret the attributes of this heritage to fellow Canadians of other cultural and ethnic groups;
  • To establish and maintain educational, social and medical institutions in addition to community centers and community projects, in order to meet the needs of both the young and the old, and
  • To foster and promote the aims and the ideas of SAE (Council of Hellenes Abroad), in as far as its participation does not contravene any of the Congress’ own aims or constitutional rights or limit any of the Congress’ own authority given by its Constitution.
